Come celebrate the music-making of Laurel School of Music students of all ages and instruments at the All-School Student Recital! Enjoy their performances, cheer on their hard work, and join the fun in one of three lively recitals at 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm, or 3:30 pm.
In a new partnership for 2025-26, the Saturday Vibe series at George Latimer Central Library aims to bring family-freindly performances to audiences of all ages and backgrounds in a cozy and friendly setting. Concerts will take place monthly the Saturday following the Coffee and Rothschild Series concerts and are free and open to the public. We hope to see you all there!
Kick off the holiday season with December’s Saturday Vibe performance, featuring the Laurel Faculty Brass Quintet! They’ll bring a mix of festive favorites and fun tunes—from a Sound of Music medley and The Nutcracker to the surprisingly catchy Rubber Duckie. Don’t miss this joyful celebration of brass and holiday cheer in the cozy, welcoming Youth Room at the George Latimer Central Library!
Hosted at the Minnesota History Center, the Rothchild Family Concert Series will feature our coffee concert series in a beautiful, reverberant, and open space each month on the Thursday following each coffee concert. Be sure to arrive early for free admission to the exhibits after 4:30pm in addition to free parking!
Join us on Thursday, December 11th for violist Daniel Orsen and pianist Osip Nikiforov. This moving program of Bach, Schubert, Liszt, and Tchaikovsky will take us from the gloom of cloudy northern Germany to the sunny alpine pastures of the alps, and also explore the musical language and connections of Liszt and Tchaikovsky’s piano repertoire.
Daniel Orsen performs with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and recently released the recording “Wagner’s Nightmare,” a collection of works for viola and piano. Siberian born pianist Osip Nikiforov can be found concertizing on stages throughout the United States, including appearances with the Minnesota Orchestra, and is third prize winner of the 2016 San Antonio International Piano Competition.
Join us for our next Coffee Concert on Wednesday, December 10 at noon featuring Laurel faculty violist Daniel Orsen and pianist Osip Nikiforov. Our student musicians have been working hard all week, and now it’s time to share their sound! This fun, end-of-camp concert features a mix of brass ensembles, different styles of music, and a special performance by the SJSM–SPCM Faculty Brass Ensemble. It’s going to be a lively, brass-filled afternoon you won’t want to miss!
The Jasper String Quartet, quartet-in-residence at Temple University in Philadelphia, returns to the Minnesota History Center for a special reprise of their SJSM-SPCM Coffee Concert performance. This free evening concert, part of the St. Joseph’s School of Music–Saint Paul Conservatory Faculty Concert Series and partnership with the MNHC, will take place on Thursday, July 3, 2025, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
The quartet, known for its expressive and dynamic performances, will present a program of classical and contemporary works. Admission to the Minnesota History Center is free from 4 to 8 PM on Thursdays, and parking is also complimentary during these hours. Beer, wine, nonalcoholic beverages, and snacks will be available for purchase.
This concert offers a unique opportunity to experience the Jasper String Quartet's artistry in the intimate setting of the Minnesota History Center. Whether you're a long-time admirer or new to their music, this performance promises an engaging and memorable evening.
This is an extra special edition of our Coffee Concerts! This week we feature students from all over the country participating in our Saint Paul Chamber Music Institute (SPCMI). The Saint Paul Chamber Music Institute is a unique chamber music program in which pre-college and college players deeply explore two works of chamber music - one with the special opportunity of rehearsing daily and performing in an ensemble with members of the Jasper String Quartet, and the second in an ensemble with fellow SPCMI students.
As usual, the noon-hour concert will be followed by complimentary coffee, cookies, and a chance to talk with the artists.
Join us for the opening concert of our St. Paul Chamber Music Institute with the award-winning Jasper Quartet and special guest, Thomas Rosenberg. Enjoy works by Benjamin Britten, Gabriella Lena Frank, and Franz Schubert as we kick off an amazing week of chamber music with SPCMI and the Jasper Quartet.
In partnership with the Minnesota History Center, join us for a reprise of our Early Music Faculty Coffee Concert program featuring Kathy Lee (soprano), James Sherepa (countertenor), Maryne Mossey (viol and cello), Julie Elhard (viols and strings), and Steven Zubich on harpsichord.
Free Minnesota History Center admission and parking is available every Thursday from 4 pm-8 pm. Come early to see the exhibits and have a bite at Cafe Minnesota before the concert begins at 6:30pm!
Opening the program will be a special performance and collaboration between three magnificent ensembles: Alejandro Brittes Trio, Havana Quartet, and Son De Cuerdas performing Mercedita (B. Sixto Rios).
Join us in a journey through time, with a delightfully diverse selection of early music spanning from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period. Featuring several of the Twin Cities' finest early music specialists who double as fantastic faculty members of SJSM-SPCM, you won't want to miss this sonic tapestry of rich polyphony, sweet melody, and vibrant dance from centuries past. Join us for an unusual yet gorgeous pairing of harp and flute. Andrea Stern, harp, and Claudia Aizaga, flute, present an enchanting concert that blends the rich, resonant tones of the flute with the ethereal elegance of the harp.
Their concert will showcase a captivating mix of classical and contemporary pieces, including renowned works for each instrument, highlighting the unique interplay between the two as soloists and in duet.
No stranger to SPCM's Coffee Concert series, Artu Duo - cellist Ruth Marshall and pianist Garret Ross - have performed together locally and internationally since 2011. This program will feature some of their favorite duo pieces as well as a collaboration with SJSM-SPCM cello faculty member Matt Liston.
A day dedicated to brass playing and masterclasses for adult and high school brass players identifying as female, non-binary, transgender, or gender.

Join us at the Minnesota History Center for a wonderful free concert in their gorgeous space on Thursday, February 6th at 6:30pm!
Opening the concert will be the magnificent Farfalle String Quartet, coached by Tom Rosenberg, who will be playing works by Mendelsohn, Dvorak, and Porter.
Following the quartet, Scott Keever, guitar, will reprise his Coffee Concert program which features many of his own compositions along with music by Bach, Williams, and traditional melodies.
The Minnesota History Center has free parking and entry on Thursdays after 4:30pm, making this concert 100% free to attend, so come enjoy the exhibits, grab a bite at the café, and enjoy brilliant music in a beautiful setting.

Scott is an award-winning composer, musician, instructor, and collaborator who has composed and produced music for film, theatre, podcasts, and radio. He also performs with Orkestar Bez Ime (OBI), an award-winning Twin Cities group that specializes in folk music from the Balkan and Eastern European regions.
