Simon Plum

Clarinet

Simon Plum is a performer and teacher in the Twin Cities area and has been the bass clarinetist with the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra since 2021. He has also performed with the Wayzata Symphony Orchestra, the Northern Lights Music Festival, the Edvard Grieg Society, and has been a Featured Soloist with the St. Olaf Orchestra.

As a performer, Simon believes in programs that showcase both established classical works, as well as pieces by underrepresented composers to cultivates a larger spectrum of musical understanding, story-telling, and representation. As a private teacher, Simon works with students of all ages to cultivate a sense of musicality, personality, responsibility, and artistry. He maintians an active private studio as well as one through the SPCM.

Simon holds a Bachelors of Music in Clarinet Performance from St. Olaf College, a Masters of Music in Clarinet Performance from Indiana Universty Jacob’s School of Music, and a Performers Diploma from Indiana University. While studying at both schools, he enjoyed touring domestically in the United States, internationally in New Zealand and Australia, and recording sound tracks for various movie and stage projects. His primary teachers include Gabriel Campos Zamora, Timothy Zavadil, Eli Eban, Scott Anderson, and Marlene Pauley.
