Featuring Sarah Jackson, soprano, and Phillip Rukavina, vihuela
There is NOTHING as beautiful as songs from the Spanish Golden Age! Join Sarah and Phillip as they perform lovely vihuela songs from the Spanish Siglo de Oro.
On this program, titled “Listen!” soprano Sarah Jackson and vihuelista Phillip Rukavina present captivating songs for voice and vihuela da mano. Although not as familiar to audiences as lute songs from Elizabethan England, these works are every bit as lovely and richly composed. In many ways they require more from the performers technically as well as artistically, and they return the added investment manyfold! Rukavina performs on the guitar-like vihuela, the Spanish version of the lute. Composers include the most famous composers and vihuelistas of the Siglo de Oro including Luys Narvaez, Alonso Mudarra, Luis Milan, Enrique Valdarrabano, and more!
Sponsored by SPCM, the New Lute Café usually takes place on the third Thursday of each month. (Please note that February’s concert, however, is being held on the third Tuesday.) Doors open at 7:00 and performances start at 7:30 pm. Performances last about an hour, sometimes a bit more.
There is no set charge for attending the performances, but a $15 per person donation is suggested to help defray costs and support our performers.
