Tamir Nolley pursued coursework in Saxophone Performance and Creative Writing at the University of Arizona and received his degree in Woodwind Performance from McNally Smith College of Music. As a student he performed in masterclasses with Delfayo Marsalis, Eugene Rousseau, Ron Carter and Bob Mintzer as well as arranging charts for well known national acts. Currently he performs with Art Beagle’s Backup Band, Re’Unique and as a bassist in the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra. In his 20+ years of teaching he has worked with outstanding students across the country, but his passion is developing strategies for making music accessible to people with physical and mental challenges. In addition to his work with the Hopewell Jazz Ensemble and private teaching he has worked with school band programs at Talmud Torah school in St. Paul and after school band programs at Olson Middle School, Stonebridge World School and Brooklyn Center High School.
