MN SWest String Fest: Application to Change Ensemble
Students are, by default, placed into either the beginning or advanced string ensemble based on their grade in school, unless their director has specified otherwise. 6th-8th grade students will be placed in the beginning string ensemble and 9th-12th grade students will be placed in the advanced string ensemble.
If a student would like to apply to play in an ensemble different from the one within their grade range, they are encouraged to fill out the brief online form and submit a short playing video.
If you are applying to move UP to the Advanced Orchestra, please record a short video (or audio file) of the excerpt listed below for your instrument. All excerpts are from “Pirates of the Caribbean.” (no recording is required to move down.)
Don’t stress about being perfect, but prepare it to the best of your ability at this time to demonstrate your current level of playing.
VIOLIN + VIOLA: Pirates of the Caribbean, Start 2 bars before rehearsal #110 and play to #142
CELLO: Pirates of the Caribbean, Start in rehearsal #5 and play to #27.
Bass: Pirates of the Caribbean, start in rehearsal #34 and play to #75.
