Jason Wells
Bass
Jason Wells graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy with a focus in music, then went on to DePaul University where he studied double bass performance with Robert Kassinger of the Chicago Symphony. He is now a full-time member of the Des Moines Symphony and subs with many other symphonic groups such as the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Sioux City Symphony, Duluth Superior Symphony and the South Dakota Symphony. Jason is also a champion of contemporary classical music and frequently performs throughout the twin cities with the 10th Wave Chamber Music Collective and RenegadeEnsemble.
Jason spends a lot of his time teaching and does everything from private bass instruction to group workshops at various middle and high schools throughout the Twin Cities and Des Moines areas. His group, Wood N’ Wind, became MPR Class Notes Artists in 2023 and has performed and conducted workshops all throughout Minnesota.
In addition to his classical performances and teaching, Jason also enjoys playing different genres such as Jazz, Tango, Folk, R&B, Gospel, and anything else he can get his hands on. He currently plays with the folk band Barbaro, the soul band Lamaar and the big band Shaun Johnson and the Big Band Experience.
