All early music lovers are invited to attend the St. Paul Conservatory of Music’s abridged production of La Pellegrina, one of the first examples of the new Baroque opera. This performance is the culmination of SPCM’s Early Music Day workshop. This special event will take the stage at the newly renovated Summit Center for Arts and Innovation.

The performance includes fully staged portions of the six musical Intermedii that were interpolated between acts of the comedy La Pellegrina, presented as part of the celebration of the wedding of the Florentine nobleman Don Ferdinando Medici to Madame Christina di Lorena in 1589.  Organized by Giovanni Bardi, Count of Vernio and leader of the famous musical Camerata de 'Bardi, the effort included most famous composers and authors of the time, who combined to produce one of the richest and most spectacular theatrical events of the early Baroque age.

SPCM’s Early Music Day workshop centers on Florentine theatrical music from the late Renaissance and early Baroque eras. Participants, both instrumentalists and singers, are coached by expert faculty in the performance of this music through rehearsal, study, and finally this public performance of a shortened version of the 1589 Intermedii.

The wonderful acoustical space of the Summit Center for Arts and Innovation, SPCM’s home, will serve as the perfect setting for this performance. A donation of $10 is requested at the door with all of the proceeds supporting activities at the St. Paul Conservatory of Music.
