Join us for the monthly New Lute Café Series, with Director Phil Rukavina.
In this concert, the Terzetti Lute Duo takes a sonorous journey through 16th-century Europe, via the rich combination of the Renaissance lute duet! The concert features music by virtuoso English composers and lutenists including Thomas Robinson (active 1589–1609) and John Marchant (ca. 1600), and lovely settings of music by the famous English lutenist John Dowland (1563-1626), plus Elizabeth I's own court lutenist John Johnson (1540-1594).
Formed in 2003, Terzetti specializes in performing lute music from the Renaissance and early Baroque eras in a way that is as true to the historical record as possible. Terzetti is comprised of two well-known Twin Cities’ based lutenists, Phillip Rukavina and Thomas Walker Jr. They combine their considerable musical skills (and loads of beautiful lutes) to bring the rare and dazzling sound of music for lute duet to modern audiences. If you've never heard such an ensemble before, now is the time - Terzetti is truly an ensemble not to be missed.
The Lute Café is sponsored by the St. Paul Conservatory of Music. Tickets are free, with a suggested donation of $15.
