Denise Hernández Raveiro is a Cuban cellist celebrated for her vibrant performances and commitment to cultural exchange. A graduate with highest honors from the University of Arts in Havana, she has played at prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and Elbphilharmonie, collaborating with renowned artists including Sarah Willis, Joshua Bell, and Chucho Valdés. As co-founder of the Havana Quartet, she has enriched the musical landscape by premiering works from contemporary Cuban composers and performing on international stages. Since relocating to Minneapolis-Saint Paul, the quartet has become the quartet-in-residence at CAYO, fostering cross-cultural dialogue through music.
Denise is equally passionate about music education. She began her teaching career at the Escuela Vocacional de Arte in Pinar del Río, mentoring young cellists aged 7 to 14, and later taught at the University of Arts in Havana, guiding undergraduate students in their musical development. Since moving to Minnesota, Denise has continued her career as a performer and educator, sharing her passion for the cello and Cuban music with the local community.
